HURRICANE SIGNAL NO. 10 ALERT in 2017

Hato is the first Hurricane Signal No. 10 alert issued by the Hong Kong Observatory since 2012. The Observatory says the strongest No. 10 signal will only be issued when there is a sustained wind speed reaching up to 118 km/h and with gusts exceeding 200 km/h. Five years ago, Vincente, another powerful typhoon that brought the typhoon signal No. 10 to Hong Kong, caused 138 injuries in total. But, at this time, only multiple injuries have been recorded after the hit of Hato.

Looking at the overwhelming number of deaths and causalities in Macau, some people criticize the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, saying they have a slow information delivery.
